A Magical Day of Books and Art On October 4th, we’re pairing the magic of storytelling with the joy of art-making. Kick off the day with Leslie A. Lee’s fantasy book readings and signings from 10 AM - 10:45 AM, and 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM, where you’ll be transported to fantastical worlds through her captivating stories. Then, stick around for one of Deborah’s art classes at 12:45 PM–1:45 PM or 1:45 PM–3:45 PM, where you’ll bring a piece of that fantasy to life on paper. These classes are the perfect way to keep the creative vibes flowing after the book signing!
What’s the Class Like? A Fairy-Tale Art Adventure!
In this special workshop, Deborah will guide you in creating a stunning colored pencil drawing of a castle turret wrapped in climbing vines. Inspired by the whimsical worlds of fantasy, this project is all about mastering shadowing techniques to bring light and dark to life, giving your artwork depth and drama. Whether it’s the sun-kissed stones of the turret or the lush, twisting vines, you’ll learn how to blend colors and create contrast for a piece that pops off the page.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Sketch the Scene: Start with a light pencil outline of a majestic castle turret, complete with climbing vines winding their way up the stone. Deborah will provide templates to make it easy for all skill levels.
Master Colored Pencils: Dive into the world of colored pencils, learning how to layer and blend hues to create rich textures—think weathered stone and vibrant greenery.
Play with Light and Shadow: Deborah’s expert tips will show you how to add depth with shading, using light and dark to make your turret and vines feel three-dimensional and alive.
Add Finishing Touches: Bring your piece to life with final details, like highlights on the vines or subtle shadows in the turret’s crevices, for a truly magical result.
All materials are included - colored pencils, paper, and everything else you need - so you can focus on creating a fantasy-inspired masterpiece to take home. At just $10 per person, this class is an affordable way to spark creativity for the whole family!
