October 4th: Book Signing with Leslie A. Lee and Fantasy Art Class
Get ready for a day of enchantment and epic tales! On Saturday, October 4th, we're thrilled to host author Leslie A. Lee for a special book signing event celebrating her captivating "Legends of the Vale" trilogy. This epic dark fantasy series transports readers to the mystical realm of the Vale, a world brimming with ancient magic, powerful elves, enigmatic vampires, and gripping themes of identity, destiny, and forbidden love. The trilogy kicks off with Child of Dawn, where a young protagonist uncovers her hidden heritage amid prophecies and peril; continues in Silken Waters, delving deeper into the watery mysteries and alliances of the Vale's immortal races; and culminates in The Ashwalker, an explosive finale filled with ash-strewn battles, redemption, and world-shaking revelations. Fans rave about the rich world-building, complex characters, and heart-pounding twists - it's like Game of Thrones meets elven lore!
The day starts with readings from the trilogy at 10AM and 1:00PM, each followed by an intimate Q&A where you can grill Leslie on her inspirations and sneak peeks at future works. Between sessions, enjoy mock-tails, cheese and apple pairings (using our fresh farm picks!), and our regular pastries and coffee for that cozy vibe. To tie it all together, Deborah Klose will host a Fantasy Drawing Class: 'Castle Turret with Climbing Vines,' where you'll sketch majestic towers entwined with lush vines, inspired by the trilogy's fantastical settings. It's a full day of immersion - bring your books for signing, or pick up the set here. Expect laughter, lore and a little literary magic!

U-Pick Apples: A Sweet Family Adventure Awaits!
Nothing says fall like wandering through rows of apple trees, plucking ripe, juicy treasures right off the branch! Our U-Pick Apple Experience is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9AM to 12PM, when the morning sun makes our apples extra sweet and crisp. For just $7 per person (kids under 5 are free!), you can roam our orchard, breathe in that fresh farm air, and fill your baskets with the season's best. Apples you pick are priced at $4.50 per pound - whether you grab a single perfect McIntosh or a whole bushel of Golden Delicious, every bite is worth it!
Here's the best part: 100% of U-Pick proceeds go toward planting more trees, ensuring our orchard stays lush and fruitful for future generations of apple pickers. By joining us, you're helping grow a legacy of family fun and farm-fresh goodness. Bring your kids, grandparents, or besties for a morning of laughter, apple-snacking, and maybe a few goofy selfies with your bounty. Pro-tip: Wear comfy shoes and bring a hat - those apples don't pick themselves, and the orchard's calling your name! Check our website for updates on which varieties are ripe each week (psst, we're testing Golden Delicious on October 9th, so stay tuned!).

Farm Fresh Updates and a Smoky Note
As we wrap up this circular tour of farm fun, we've got a few more treats to share. We're hoping to have our fresh-pressed juice ready by the week of the 22nd - perfect or sipping during classes or events. In the meantime, swing by for our fresh-baked, homemade (Julie from Sugar Shack) caramel apple pies made with juicy McIntosh apples; they're gooey, cinnamon-spiced perfection that'll make your taste buds dance. We've also got a handful of homemade bumbleberry pies (frozen, but already baked) looking for good homes - grab one before they're gone!
On a practical note, we've been dealing with some smoke wafting in from the nearby fire in eastern Fresno County. It comes and goes daily, courtesy of Mother Nature's whims - we can smell it, but it's not always heavy. And hey, ripe apples don't wait for anyone, anyway - We're keeping things fresh and fabulous regardless, with plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the breeze.
Finally, we'll be sampling Golden Delicious on the 9th and updating you on when each variety hits peak ripeness - for now, it's our McIntosh - great for baking, applesauce, and eating! It's all part of the farm's seasonal rhythm - art, books, crafts, and apples galore. Come join the fun; we can't wait to see you!
